Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

-Robert Frost

I thought that this poem was very deep and touching. This poem really touched me. I remeber it from the movie "The Outsiders". I remember when pony boy read the poem... I almost started to cry.

This poem reminds me of a sunrise because they only last for about an hour and when the sun is rising everything looks gold like the leaves on a tree but when the sun is high in the sky they turn back to green wich is like the the last sentence saying,"nothing gold can stay".

this poem touches me because you have to see beneath the words that are written. I think it has a sad feeling to it,like nothing can stay good and bright forever

This poem was nice and had a good meaning to it since gold was realy natures first green.

This poem is very traditional. It's meaning is very deep, so you have to really think to understand it. The words are about a plant life, but it's meaning is what you make of it.

This peom is really deep becuase it is like they are trying to give us a message about what she/he is thinking but it is so diffrent that nobody can get it and because they have a lot of emotion put into this poem that is what makes it really interesting.

So for myself, i think this poem means that we should never take anything for granted because it can be gone in a second without really getting to see what it is, rather than the something you want it to be.

I personally think that this poem is about the sunset and how it is so beautiful. It golden and makes everything brighter and and when it goes everything begins to get duller and not as bright, the gold fades away. I also remember pony reading it in "The Outsiders". It was a touching part in the book.

I think of the summer harvest and eating with family for Thanksgiving. Also it reminds me of someone sitting on the waters edge and watching the sunset go down.

i think the meaning to this poem is like the saying "if you love something a lot, let it go" so if you have something golden it must go some day

Like Kristy-Lynn said it reminds me of the outsiders. Also the poem makes me think of a baby that was born. He/she was growing up, the mom thought her baby was the best (gold), but when the mom let her baby go.. he/she took the wrong direction. At the end of the poem it said 'Nothing gold can stay', that makes me think the baby died.
