Helen Keller

She,
In the dark,
Found light
Brighter than many ever see.
She,
Within herself,
Found loveliness,
Through the soul's own mastery.
And now the world receives
From her dower:
The message of the strength
Of inner power.

-Langston Hughes

This peom is very in depth. It has the abilty to reach inside of you and make you really think, imagine, wonder. I really like this poem, because its not just black and white, its not something you read once and understand it. It really has meaning inside the words.

I love this poem!
It's so motivating, I think that anyone who's down, or sad, or upset should read this poem. It truly expresses emotions, and also, it has depth. It makes you think of all the things we take for granted in my opinion. Helen Keller didn't have sight or hearing, but this poem makes it seem like she had so much more. And when i read it, it made me just think of all the things i have that other people don't.
We all need to stop taking things for granted.

My idea of poetry is word that make you think about what they mean, not just reading it and simply understanding it. I think this is a great example of my kind of poetry.

This poems message is that even though Helen Keller couldn't hear or see, she still found light by learning sign language.

When I read this poem, I really get into the words. I think of the things Helen Keller brought to the world and herself. She brought in a little more light to her situation. She proved to others that anything can happen, anyone can accomplish anything.

This Poem is beautiful. Helen Keller did find light and hope by learning how to communicate with others, even thought she was blind and deff. Even thought this poem is short it talks about alot of things. This poem has alot of meaning and i'm sure it touched alot of people!

I think that this poem is sad and depressing because the poem says that Helen Keller is in the dark. Then later in the poem it is happy because the poem says that Helen Keller had found the light.

i think there was a blind and death person who didn't know anything and all of a sudden understood stuff

Ok so is it like she was depressed and had low self esteem. Then she found the spark in her and learned to love herself?
